Pecans are naturally sodium-free, making them an excellent choice for those on a salt- or sodium-restricted diet. The American Heart Association has certified pecans as a heart healthy food so eat up!

Spiced Pecans

Ingredients

  • 2 cups pecan halves
  • 1/3 light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cayenne
  • 1/2 teaspoon Sea Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat over to 300 degrees F. Line a baking pan with parchment paper and spray with non stick spray, set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, mix brown sugar, cayenne, sea salt, chopped rosemary and ground cinnamon, set aside. 
  3. In a small bowl, whisk 1 egg white and vegetable oil together. Add the spice mixture to the egg mixture and whisk until combined.
  4. Pour the egg and spice mixture over the pecans and mix well until the pecans are coated.  Pour the spiced pecans out onto the oiled parchment paper, spread the pecans in an even layer. 
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, stirring the pecans twice during the baking time. Remove from the oven and allow to cool, lift the nuts from the parchment paper while they cool to prevent sticking. 
  6. Serve right away or once cooled store in a container with a lid, use within 3 days.
